Uzodimma announces cabinet reshuffle

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has announced plans to reshuffle his cabinet as part of efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery, while also charging the Imo State Elders Council and the State Council of Traditional Rulers to develop a practical framework for implementing the state’s Charter of Equity.
The governor said his administration would fully support the framework, describing it as essential to ensuring fair power rotation, sustaining political stability, and promoting peace, justice and unity across the state.
Uzodimma made the remarks during a meeting with members of the Imo State Elders Council and the State Council of Traditional Rulers at the New EXCO Chambers, Government House, Owerri on Wednesday.
He explained that the Charter of Equity should not remain a mere political declaration but should be strengthened with a clear implementation framework that would guarantee fairness, equity and inclusiveness in the state’s political process.
According to the governor, the responsibility of developing the framework rests with the elders and traditional rulers, assuring them that his administration would provide every necessary support to ensure its success.
Reflecting on his administration’s journey, Uzodimma said he inherited a deeply divided and politically polarised state but has, through deliberate reconciliation efforts and inclusive governance, restored unity and stability across Imo.
He warned against a return to the era of political division, insisting that fairness, equity and justice must remain the foundation for lasting peace and sustainable development.
As preparations gradually gather momentum for the 2027 general elections, the governor urged political leaders to place the overall interest of Imo State above personal ambition, stressing that the Charter of Equity should serve as a guide for promoting harmony and equitable power rotation.
Uzodimma also highlighted the benefits of maintaining a cordial working relationship with the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the partnership has attracted significant gains to the South-East, including the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) and the execution of key infrastructure projects across the region.
The governor further disclosed that his administration would soon embark on a cabinet reshuffle aimed at repositioning government for greater efficiency and improved service delivery.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, stating that government would continue to create employment opportunities and expand skills acquisition programmes to equip young people with practical skills for productive engagement and economic self-reliance.
