Uche Ogbuagu, Arthur Ugochukwu, 3 women, others emerge as Imo PDP Reps standard-bearers

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has produced former lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Uche Ogbuagu, Hon. Arthur N.C. Ugochukwu and three female aspirants among its candidates for the 2027 House of Representatives elections following the party’s primary elections held across the state.
The primary elections, conducted on Sunday, May 17, 2026, across the various local government areas of the state, produced candidates for the 10 federal constituencies in Imo State.
Rt. Hon. Uche Ogbuagu emerged as the PDP standard-bearer for Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency, while Hon. Arthur N.C. Ugochukwu clinched the party’s ticket for Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency.
Also elected were Chief Samuel Christian Onye for Okigwe/Onuimo/Isiala Mbano Federal Constituency; Barr. Ikenna Emeruem for Ehime Mbano/Ihitte Uboma/Obowo Federal Constituency; High Chief Joseph Chukwuma Ikunna for Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency; Chief Owuzuruike Banabas Chijioke for Orlu/Orsu/Oru East Federal Constituency; and Barr. Amby Emeh for Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency.
Three women also emerged as candidates of the party. They are Hon. (Mrs.) Iheme Ndidi Olachi Ulumma for Owerri Federal Constituency, Hon. Nwadike Peace Adanna for Nkwere/Isu/Nwangele/Njaba Federal Constituency, and Chief (Mrs.) Princess Oleka-Chinedu for Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency.
The party said the emergence of the female candidates demonstrates the PDP’s commitment to its 35 per cent affirmative action policy aimed at encouraging greater participation of women in elective and appointive positions.
In a statement issued by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Lancelot Obiaku, the party commended the leadership of the State Chairman, Rt. Hon. Austine Nwachukwu, for ensuring a smooth and successful conduct of the primaries.
The party expressed confidence that the candidates possess the competence, experience and character needed to secure victory for the PDP in the 2027 general elections.
It further urged party leaders, stakeholders and members across the state to rally behind the candidates as preparations intensify ahead of the polls.
