The Action People’s Party (APP) candidate for Imo East Senatorial District (Owerri Zone), Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi (Mazi Gburugburu), has called on Christians, particularly the people of Owerri Zone in Imo State, to take active roles in the electoral process and contribute towards electing credible leaders in the 2027 general elections.

Dr. Amadi made the call on Sunday, May 31, 2026, while worshipping with parishioners at St. Benignus Catholic Church, Ihitte-Isi, Mbieri, in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.

Addressing the congregation, the renowned philanthropist and multidisciplinary scholar urged voters not to sell their votes, stressing that meaningful change in society can only be achieved when citizens actively participate in governance and make informed electoral choices.

According to him, Christians must rise to the challenge of shaping the future of the nation by electing leaders with integrity, competence, and genuine concern for the welfare of the people.

Quoting the biblical principle that “faith without works is dead,” Dr. Amadi noted that prayers alone would not solve the leadership challenges facing the country unless citizens complement their faith with responsible civic engagement.

He lamented the rising levels of poverty and insecurity across the nation and urged Nigerians not to remain passive observers while expecting positive changes.

Mazi Gburugburu emphasized that electing the right leaders remains one of the most effective ways of addressing the socio-economic difficulties confronting the people.

Dr. Amadi also expressed concern over what he described as the growing docility of the populace in matters affecting governance and development.

He appealed to citizens to rethink their attitudes and become more involved in the democratic process to help change the prevailing narrative.

In a moment of compassion and solidarity, Dr. Amadi donated N1 million to the family of Master Chibueze Asonye, a 14-year-old boy whose life was tragically cut short following a ghastly motor accident along Umuodu Mbieri Road on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

He condoled with the bereaved family and prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul.

The senatorial hopeful further demonstrated his commitment to community development by donating N7.5 million towards ongoing projects at St. Benignus Catholic Church.

The donation was specifically directed towards supporting projects being undertaken by the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) and other developmental initiatives within the parish.

Speaking during the event, the Director General of The Mazi Organization (TMO), Hon. Chief Henry Onwukwe, appealed to the people of Ihitte-Isi, Mbieri Nation, and the entire Mbaitoli Local Government Area to support Dr. Amadi’s senatorial ambition.

He expressed confidence that Dr. Amadi’s emergence as Senator for Imo East would attract meaningful development and tangible democratic dividends to the zone.

Among those who attended the church service alongside Dr. Amadi were Chief Henry Onwukwe (Apiti), Hon. ABC Onyeji, Comr. Chukwuemeka Isidore, Hon. Martin Ohanele, Barr. Uche Nwosu, Engr. Emeka Onwukwe, Dr. Brent Akomas, Hon. Mrs. Nneka Chukwu, Valentine Ahanek, Hon. Clement Egbuchiki, Hon. Ifeoma Ohamesi, among other dignitaries.
