Oguta leaders back Agwa clan for House of Reps

Denounce second-term bid for incumbent, hail APC national leadership for cancellation of automatic tickets

The leaders and stakeholders of Oguta Local Government Area, during a high-powered meeting held Wednesday at Izombe, expressed their profound gratitude to the National Leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its principled decision not to grant automatic tickets to serving federal lawmakers. Briefing journalists after the session, Hon. Hassan Nwauwa, a prominent leader in the area, noted that this democratic stance ensures a level playing field and allows the yearnings of constituent communities for fresh leadership to be heard.

The stakeholders also lauded Governor Hope Uzodimma for his recent pronouncement during the Orlu APC Zonal Stakeholders meeting, where he openly stated that equity would be respected in choosing candidates for the forthcoming general elections in the state. Hon. Nwauwa emphasized that the Governor’s commitment to fairness has given hope to marginalized clans, reinforcing the belief that the “Shared Prosperity” administration is built on the foundation of justice for all.

In a direct move to clear the air, the leaders completely denounced the propaganda suggesting that the leaders and stakeholders had endorsed the incumbent member representing the Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency to continue for a second term. Hon. Nwauwa clarified that such claims are entirely false and do not reflect the position of the Oguta political leadership. The forum urged the public to disregard these rumours, as the stakeholders remain firmly committed to a change in representation.

Deepening the call for a change, the stakeholders recalled that there was a one-term agreement signed by the incumbent representative, wherein he committed that he would not seek re-election before he was elected in 2023.

Hon. Nwauwa urged the lawmaker to be a gentleman and respect that agreement, noting that honour and the fulfilment of promises are essential for maintaining political stability and trust within the constituency.

The meeting concluded with a resolution that equity totally favours Agwa Clan to produce the next member of the House of Representatives. The leaders urged everyone in Oguta to rally behind the Agwa Clan to make that happen, citing the long years of systematic marginalisation the clan has endured. They officially and fully endorsed the Agwa clan to run for the office, asserting that the clan’s population and contribution to the party deserve this long-awaited political recognition.

By taking this decisive stand, the Oguta leaders have signaled a major shift in the political landscape of the Federal Constituency. Hon. Nwauwa reiterated that the move is not intended to foster division but to promote a sense of belonging and fairness among the three Local Government Areas.

As the 2027 race begins to take shape, the Izombe declaration has set a clear agenda: the pursuit of equity for Agwa is now the primary objective of the Oguta political leadership.
