UK Phases Out Visa Stickers for Nigerians, Introduces E-Visas from February 25

Nigerian travellers to the United Kingdom will begin receiving digital visas from February 25, 2026, as British authorities discontinue the issuance of physical visa stickers in passports.
In a statement released on Monday, the British High Commission (BHC) announced that electronic visas (e-visas) will replace the traditional vignette stickers previously affixed to Nigerian passports.
According to the commission, travellers will now access their visas electronically through their UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) accounts — a move described as a major step toward modernising the UK’s visa system.
The BHC clarified that visa application procedures and eligibility requirements remain unchanged. Applicants will still complete the standard application process, attend a visa application centre to provide biometric data, and meet all existing criteria.
The only change is in the method of issuance. Instead of receiving a physical sticker, successful applicants will obtain a secure digital record of their immigration status.
Nigerians who currently hold valid visa stickers do not need to take any action, as their visas will remain valid until expiry or replacement.
The commission added that the new system will allow passports to be returned more quickly and enable travellers to manage their immigration status online at any time and from any location. It also noted that e-visas offer enhanced security, as they cannot be lost, stolen, or tampered with.
Gill Lever, British Deputy High Commissioner in Abuja, said the transition to digital visas will streamline the process, strengthen security, and reduce reliance on paper documentation.
Approved applicants will be able to access their e-visas through their UKVI accounts once their applications are successful.
