Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has expressed concern over what he termed the unchecked influence of the social media and called for measures to regulate its use in the country.
Gov Uzodimma made the call on Friday, August 15, 2025 when the President of Nigeria Guild of Editors, Eze Anuba paid him a courtesy visit in Owerri, Imo State capital.
He urged the Guild to encourage responsible journalism that supports democracy and national development.

The governor emphasized the need for editors as gate-keepers of media organizations to adopt developmental journalism, focusing on constructive criticisms that promote national unity and development..

Uzodimma assured that his government will remain committed to supporting journalists to bring sanity and order to the society and appealed for collaboration and partnership between the government and the media to drive development in Imo State and Nigeria.
He reiterated that Imo is safe for residents and visitors and urged them to feel free to visit the projects that had been executed in the state.

Earlier, the President Nigeria Guild of Editors Eze Anuba said that the group is in Owerri for its first meeting after the inauguration of its new executive.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Uzodimma for his support to the Guild.
He invited His Excellency to their annual editors conference holding in Abuja in October 2025.
