Uche Ogbuagu expresses confidence of winning Mbaike Reps seat in 2027

Urges journalists to promote development with ethical practice

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general election, Hon. Uche Ogbuagu, has expressed confidence in securing victory at the polls, citing his track record of service and achievements during his tenure as the member representing Ikeduru State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly.

Ogbuagu said his performance between 2019 and 2023 remains unmatched in the constituency, noting that the legacy he built in office, coupled with an issues-based campaign, would earn him the confidence and support of the electorate.

The former lawmaker made the remarks while receiving the executive members of the Owerri Zone Media Practitioners Association (OZOMPA), who paid him a courtesy and appreciation visit.

A prominent media entrepreneur and owner of a chain of radio stations, including My Radio Akabo, Ogbuagu used the occasion to call on journalists to remain committed to ethical journalism, stressing that professionalism, integrity and objectivity are essential for promoting sustainable development in Owerri Zone and Imo State.

Reflecting on his time in the State Assembly, Ogbuagu said he established a performance benchmark that has yet to be surpassed, despite the financial limitations often faced by legislators.

According to him, his passion for people-oriented leadership inspired him to make personal sacrifices, including reducing his personal expenses, to fund projects that directly benefited his constituents.

He disclosed that he executed more than 60 constituency projects, including the construction of markets and the provision of boreholes, adding that the projects have continued to impact communities across Ikeduru.

The PDP chieftain maintained that his record of service would form the foundation of his campaign for the House of Representatives, expressing optimism that the people of Mbaitoli and Ikeduru would entrust him with the mandate to provide transformational leadership at the federal level.

“I am confident that the people will judge me based on my performance and the visible impact I made while serving in the State Assembly. My campaign will focus on issues that affect our people, and I believe that record will speak for itself,” he said.

Ogbuagu also commended the formation of OZOMPA, describing it as a commendable initiative that would strengthen professionalism and collaboration among media practitioners from Owerri Zone.

He urged members of the association to remain steadfast in upholding the ethics of journalism, noting that balanced, factual and objective reporting would help promote accountability, good governance and the election of credible leaders.

He further praised the association for recognising media investors and entrepreneurs from the zone, saying such recognition would encourage more investments capable of creating jobs and contributing to the economic growth of Imo State.

The media entrepreneur pledged to partner with and support the association in achieving its objectives and advancing the development of Owerri Zone and the state.

Earlier, the Chairman of OZOMPA, Comrade Chinedu Opara, said the visit formed part of the association’s ongoing engagement with media owners and chief executives from Owerri Zone to appreciate their contributions to the growth of the media industry and the state’s economy.

He explained that the visit also provided an opportunity to formally introduce the association, seek Ogbuagu’s support for its programmes and encourage him to continue advocating for the interests of Owerri Zone, particularly the aspiration for the emergence of a governor from the zone in 2027.
