Revealed! Why Uche Ogbuagu Resigned from Labour Party

Rt. Hon. Uche Steve Ogbuagu has officially resigned his membership of the Labour Party, citing personal convictions and a shift in political direction, according to his resignation letter dated April 13, 2026.
A seasoned politician with deep roots in Imo State politics, Ogbuagu has built a reputation over the years as a grassroots mobiliser and influential figure, particularly in Ikeduru Local Government Area. He previously served as a member of the Imo State House of Assembly, where he represented Ikeduru State Constituency and was known for his active participation in legislative matters and constituency engagement.
Throughout his political journey, Ogbuagu has remained visible in party activities and community development efforts, earning recognition for his accessibility and strong connection with his constituents. His involvement in local politics has seen him align with different political platforms at various times, reflecting the dynamic nature of Imo’s political landscape.
In his resignation letter addressed to the Labour Party Chairman of Akabo Ward, Ogbuagu expressed gratitude for the relationships and partnerships he built within the party, describing them as cordial and rewarding. He, however, maintained that his decision to exit was based on careful reflection and a desire to pursue a new political path.
Observers say his resignation may not be unconnected to ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as key actors reposition across party lines. Given his experience and political structure, Ogbuagu’s next move is expected to attract significant attention within Imo’s political space.
While he has yet to publicly declare his next political destination, his departure from the Labour Party is already generating reactions among party faithful and political watchers, with many keenly awaiting his next step.
