I will rebuild Imo’s broken education system, restore excellence — Chima Amadi

By Jotham Emenyonu
The Action People’s Party (APP) candidate for Imo East Senatorial District and an aspirant for the governorship of Imo State, Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, has vowed to rebuild what he described as the broken education system in Imo State and restore the state’s lost reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading centres of academic excellence.
Dr. Amadi made the declaration during a meeting with members of the Imo Newspaper Publishers Association (INPA) at the weekend, where he outlined his vision for the future of Imo State and the role education would play in achieving sustainable development.
Addressing the publishers, the renowned scholar, philanthropist and development advocate emphasized that quality education remains the foundation upon which prosperous societies are built.
According to him, the decline in educational standards across many public schools in Imo State has become a source of concern, adding that urgent and deliberate action is required to reverse the trend.
“I will rebuild Imo’s broken education system and restore excellence. Education remains the greatest investment any government can make in its people. We must return our schools to the enviable standards that once made Imo the pride of the nation,” Amadi stated.
He further declared that the APP is a people-oriented political platform driven by the aspirations and hopes of ordinary citizens.
“Our party is not anchored by big names. It is driven by the people. We believe that governance should serve the people and not a privileged few. The future of Imo belongs to its citizens, and together we can build a state that works for everyone,” he said.
Dr. Amadi is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished intellectuals and public policy thinkers from Imo State. Over the years, he has built a reputation as a scholar, entrepreneur, philanthropist and advocate for good governance.
His academic journey reflects a lifelong commitment to learning, leadership and excellence. Through years of rigorous study and professional development, he has acquired advanced qualifications and expertise in leadership, management, development studies and public policy, positioning him among the most intellectually equipped individuals seeking public office in Imo State.
Beyond his impressive academic background, Amadi has distinguished himself through practical interventions aimed at improving the lives of ordinary citizens.
Many observers believe that his blend of scholarship, private-sector experience and commitment to community development places him in a unique position to provide visionary leadership for Imo State.
One area where Dr. Amadi has consistently demonstrated commitment is education.
For several years, he has invested substantial resources in supporting students, sponsoring educational programmes and creating opportunities for young people to pursue academic excellence.
Through scholarships, mentorship initiatives and educational support schemes, he has assisted numerous students from different parts of Imo State and beyond.
Beneficiaries of his interventions have repeatedly acknowledged his role in helping them remain in school and achieve their educational aspirations.
Education stakeholders who have followed his activities note that his passion for learning goes beyond political promises.
According to them, his track record shows a genuine commitment to empowering young people through knowledge acquisition and skills development.
Speaking on his plans for the sector, Amadi said his administration would prioritize the rehabilitation of public schools, teacher training, curriculum improvement and the deployment of technology to enhance learning outcomes.
He also stressed the need to improve teachers’ welfare, arguing that no education system can perform effectively without motivated and adequately trained educators.
“We must create an environment where our teachers are respected, well-trained and properly motivated. When teachers succeed, students succeed, and when students succeed, society benefits,” he said.
He further pledged to establish policies that would encourage innovation, research and entrepreneurship among students, thereby preparing them for the demands of the modern economy.
On the issue of insecurity, Dr. Amadi expressed concern over the challenges confronting many communities across Imo State.
He noted that insecurity has negatively affected economic activities, discouraged investment and created fear among residents.
According to him, lasting security can only be achieved through a combination of effective law enforcement, community engagement and economic empowerment.
He advocated stronger collaboration between security agencies, traditional institutions, religious leaders and community stakeholders to identify and address threats before they escalate.
The APP candidate also emphasized the importance of intelligence gathering and the use of modern technology in combating crime.
He argued that young people must be given opportunities to become productive members of society rather than being left vulnerable to criminal influences.
“Insecurity cannot be addressed through force alone. We must create opportunities, provide hope and engage our youths positively. When people have meaningful opportunities, crime naturally reduces,” he stated.
Dr. Amadi identified unemployment as one of the greatest challenges facing Imo State.
According to him, many graduates and skilled young people remain unemployed despite possessing the talent and potential needed to contribute to economic growth.
He said his vision includes creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, attracting investments and supporting entrepreneurship.
He explained that economic development should focus not only on attracting large investors but also on empowering small and medium-scale enterprises that generate employment opportunities.
The APP governorship aspirant further pledged to establish programmes aimed at equipping youths with practical skills in technology, agriculture, manufacturing and creative industries.
He noted that the future economy would be driven by innovation and knowledge, making it imperative for government to invest in human capital development.
“Our youths are our greatest asset. We must provide them with the tools, training and opportunities necessary to succeed. When our young people succeed, Imo succeeds,” he said.
He also advocated stronger partnerships between government, educational institutions and the private sector to ensure that graduates possess skills relevant to modern labour market demands.
Political observers believe that Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi possesses qualities that distinguish him from many other aspirants seeking public office.
Unlike politicians whose public profiles emerge mainly during election periods, Amadi has built a reputation through years of engagement in education, philanthropy, leadership development and community empowerment.
Supporters point to his intellectual depth, accessibility and practical approach to problem-solving as some of his defining strengths.
Many also see his extensive involvement in youth development and educational advancement as evidence of his commitment to long-term societal transformation.
His supporters argue that while many politicians focus primarily on political rhetoric, Amadi has demonstrated a willingness to invest personal resources in initiatives that directly impact people’s lives.
They also cite his emphasis on knowledge-based governance and evidence-driven policy making as qualities that could help reposition Imo State for sustainable growth and development.
As preparations for future elections continue, Dr. Amadi insists that his mission is centred on building a prosperous, secure and educated society where every citizen has the opportunity to succeed.
He said his vision extends beyond politics and focuses on creating systems that will improve governance, strengthen institutions and enhance the quality of life for all residents.
According to him, restoring excellence in education, creating jobs, improving security and promoting economic growth are interconnected goals that must be pursued simultaneously.
He expressed confidence that with the support of the people, Imo State can reclaim its position as one of Nigeria’s leading states in education, innovation and development.
“We have the talent, the resources and the potential. What we need is visionary leadership, effective planning and the collective determination to build a better future. Together, we can restore excellence and make Imo a model state for the rest of the country,” Amadi said.
As discussions about the future of Imo State gather momentum, many stakeholders will undoubtedly continue to scrutinize the programmes and proposals of those seeking public office. For Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, however, the message remains clear: education, youth empowerment, security and economic development must form the foundation of a new and prosperous Imo State.
