Only forms obtained from Turaki-Led Interim NWC are valid , says Ikenga Jonjude

- As Imo PDP chapter begins sale of nomination forms for 2027 elections

The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially announced the commencement of the sale of nomination forms for the 2027 general elections under the recognized Interim National Working Committee led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN).

Chairman of the Imo State PDP Caretaker Committee, Ikenga Jonjude Okere, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Owerri, stating that the pricing for the forms was decently structured by the leadership of the party in line with political inclusiveness and in consideration of the masses, in keeping with the ideals of the People’s Party.

He urged loyal party members to disregard anyone claiming to sell nomination forms outside the structure approved by the party’s Interim National Working Committee, warning aspirants to be cautious of suspended or expelled individuals allegedly attempting to mislead them into making irredeemable financial mistakes.

According to him, only forms obtained through the officially approved channel of the Interim National Working Committee, ably led by Turaki (SAN), will be recognized and valid for the 2027 elections.

The development follows the Supreme Court’s April 30, 2026 ruling which invalidated the November 2025 Ibadan National Convention and upheld the suspension of key conveners of the Abuja Convention, including Ajibade (SAN) and Senator Samuel Anyanwu. The Certified True Copies (CTC) of both the Appeal Court and Supreme Court judgments, according to the party, are already available in the public space for verification and reference.

To avoid a leadership vacuum, the PDP Board of Trustees chaired by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara convened the 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting where it presented its recommendation for a 13-member Interim National Working Committee in accordance with the party’s constitution as amended in 2017.

Following deliberations, the NEC approved and ratified the appointment of the Interim National Working Committee with Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) serving as Interim National Chairman, while Taofeeq Arapaja emerged as Interim National Secretary.

The NEC also ratified the cost structure for nomination forms across various elective offices for the 2027 elections, with provisional concessions aimed at promoting political inclusiveness.

Under the arrangement, women aspirants will only pay for expression-of-interest forms, while youths and persons living with disabilities will enjoy a 50 percent discount on nomination form fees.

The party said the concessions were introduced to encourage wider participation in the democratic process and strengthen its commitment to empowering women, youths and persons living with disabilities to seek elective positions.

The PDP further stated that the decisions taken by the NEC underscore the party’s determination to reposition itself, strengthen internal democracy and present credible candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections as it intensifies efforts to reclaim political ground across the country.
