Bede Eke knocks Mazi Gburugburu’s guber, Senate ambitions
* Says it is political distraction, deceit against Ngor Okpala people

Former federal lawmaker and Commissioner for Housing, Urban Development and New Cities, Rt Hon Bede Eke, is said to have been vindicated following his earlier stance on the political future of Dr Matthew Chima Amadi (Mazi Gburugburu).
It was learnt that on October 18, 2025, Eke took a swipe at Amadi, urging him to publicly declare whether he intended to contest the Senate or the governorship. He accused Amadi of misleading the unsuspecting public, maintaining that he was merely seeking media attention to massage his ego after failing to have his way in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
This newspaper gathered that five months after Eke’s demand for clarity, the campaign organisation of Dr Matthew Chima Amadi, otherwise known as *The Mazi Organisation*, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, announced at a press conference that its principal would contest both the Owerri Zone Senate seat and the Imo governorship in 2027. The group described the move as a calculated political strategy tailored to the state’s unique electoral dynamics.
Reacting to the declaration, Eke said, “I have been vindicated by the recent announcement made by Amadi’s campaign organisation that he will contest both the Owerri Zone Senate and governorship elections. This is the height of deceit in our political climate. How can one man arrogate to himself the sole candidacy of both the Senate ticket and the governorship? This is desperation at its peak.”
He further stated that the outcome of the National Assembly elections in the state would shock Amadi, expressing confidence that the ruling APC would win all National Assembly seats in Imo State. According to him, the result would create significant tension within the opposition camp.
“The people of Ngor Okpala can no longer be deceived by Amadi and his cohorts. Our people are enlightened and have decided to align with the political direction of Governor Hope Uzodimma in order to position our local government for greater opportunities,” he said.
Eke advised Amadi to reconsider his ambitions to avoid “the shame of losing two different elections,” insisting that he lacks the political strength to challenge experienced and grassroots politicians in Owerri Zone and Imo State at large.
“He should rather see the 2027 election as a political tutorial. If perhaps he wishes to contest again in 2031, then he can prepare better. The next election is not for greenhorns,” Eke added.
