JUST IN: Ngoforo reports alleged assassination attempt

As Ideato Youth Alliance calls for investigation

Mazi Franklin Ngoforo, Executive Director of Civic Action for Democracy (CAD) and a plaintiff in an ongoing lawsuit concerning the status of the Action Peoples Party (APP), has reported a security scare involving his movement in Abuja on Tuesday afternoon.

According to information made available by Ngoforo and his associates, the incident occurred at about 3:25 p.m. while he was returning from a meeting in the Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory. He stated that he noticed one vehicle trailing his car for some distance and later observed the presence of another vehicle, prompting concerns for his safety.

Ngoforo said his driver took evasive steps, including altering routes and driving into a busy commercial area, after which the vehicles were no longer sighted. No injuries were reported, and no damage to property was recorded.

Speaking briefly to journalists after the incident, Ngoforo said he had been shaken by the experience but was grateful that he and those with him were unharmed. He described the episode as distressing and said it raised serious security concerns that required official attention.

“I believe it is important that security agencies look into what happened,” Ngoforo said. “Any situation where a citizen feels unsafe while going about lawful activities deserves proper investigation.”

He confirmed that he is preparing to formally notify relevant security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force, requesting an inquiry into the incident and appropriate security measures.

The development has attracted reactions from civil society groups and associates of Ngoforo, some of whom have called on authorities to ensure his safety, particularly in light of his public advocacy and involvement in ongoing legal proceedings. They urged security agencies to establish the facts surrounding the incident and reassure the public.

The Ideato Youth Alliance (IYA), a socio-cultural youth group, also issued a statement expressing concern over Ngoforo’s safety and calling for a thorough investigation by security agencies. The group appealed for calm and emphasized the need for lawful processes rather than speculation.

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been issued by security agencies regarding the incident, and no arrests have been announced.

Ngoforo reiterated that he remains committed to his civic engagements and legal actions, while urging Nigerians to support peaceful, lawful, and democratic means of addressing political and electoral disputes.
