Imo Airport Host Communities Applaud Uzodimma Over Safer, Busier Operations
Commend Keyamo, FAAN MD, Airport Manager; Pass Vote of Confidence on Kaduru

Leaders and stakeholders of the host communities of Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport have expressed satisfaction over the steady rise in flight operations and improved security at the facility.
The leaders, drawn from Obiangwu, Logara, Umuohiagu and Ezemba communities in Ngor Okpala LGA, said the peaceful atmosphere recorded during the Christmas period and beyond reflects the proactive leadership of Hope Uzodimma. They commended the governor for fulfilling his promise to recover, rehabilitate and reposition key sectors of the state.
The commendation was made at a stakeholders’ meeting facilitated by Hon. Chukwuma Anuforo, Governor’s Liaison Officer and President of the Onyeaghala Nwanneya Youth Movement (OYM). The forum, which reviewed the youth body’s 2025 activities and outlined plans for 2026, also applauded the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, and the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Dr. Olubunmi Kuku, for their collaboration with the state government.
They further acknowledged the contributions of Hon. Obinna Egu, member representing Ngor Okpala State Constituency; Dr. Chijioke Kaduru; and the airport manager for strengthening security, development and partnership between the airport authority and host communities.
Speaking at the meeting, Hon. Anuforo attributed the improved security and unprecedented growth in operations to infrastructure upgrades initiated by the state government, including installation of night navigation facilities, dualisation and solarisation of access roads, and remodelling of terminal facilities.
He noted that the renewed momentum at the airport has encouraged greater youth participation in sustaining peace and security within the host communities.
The youth leader also praised the airport manager for introducing corporate social responsibility initiatives, including support for students from disadvantaged backgrounds and welfare packages for community members.
In his remarks, the Councillor for Umuohiagu/Logara Ward, Hon. Uba Eke, urged airport authorities to consider regularising long-serving casual workers from the host communities. He also commended Dr. Kaduru for donating two coaster buses to enhance passenger movement and supporting solar power installations within parts of the airport premises.
The stakeholders unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Dr. Kaduru and the airport manager, describing their partnership with the Federal and Imo State governments as key to positioning the airport for greater national relevance.
