Presenting cheques to the bereaved families and injured victims in his country home, Akokwa, member for Ideato Federal Constituency, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, said his friends raised a total sum of N61 millions for the affected families.

Among the donors, according to Ugochinyere, is the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.

Ugochinyere noted that security agents were doing a lot to fight criminals in the area, but frowned that the vigilante groups were not equipped.

“This will not bring back their loved ones, but it’s a way of walking with them through this difficult moment and praying that this will not happen again”, he stated.

The lawmaker called on the state government to consider it a matter of urgency to protect the communities with the local government funds.

“If I come again and vigilante groups are not paid and equipped, the local police are not equipped and our people are being killed, while Ideato North and South local governments are receiving almost one billion monthly, I will tell the whole world where the money is going. I have all the documents. I know every kobo that has left that account”, he submitted.

One of recipients of the aid, Ozioma Munachi, said the experience of the fateful day was terrifying, and has left them with trauma that will last long .

She expressed gratitude to Ugochinyere and those who donated the money.
