Imo: Ngor Okpala Council boss, Ibekwe suspends Town Union election

It was learnt that the incumbent had been in office for almost a decade, a situation which was no longer acceptable by stakeholders of the community both home and in diaspora

This newspaper gathered that it took the intervention of the Ngor Okpala Local Government Council boss, Hon Chika Ibekwe to restore orderliness and peace in the autonomous community

According to a release personally signed by the Hon Chika Ibekwe dated 19th May, 2025 and obtained by our correspondent disclosed;

“Following the inability of the leaders, stakeholders and the people of Obiangwu Community to resolve the lingering Town Union leadership tussle bedelvering the community, the Executive Chairman of Ngor Okpala as the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Security Officer of the LGA, hereby directs as follows:

1. That the Obiangwu Town Union Leadership election earlier scheduled for Friday, 20th, June, 2025, is hereby cancelled

2. That the Obiangwu Town Union Executive members Appointed by the former IMC chairman are hereby dissolved

3. That the following persons have been appointed Caretaker Committee members to oversee the affairs of the Town Union till further notice;

1. President General ___ Pst Chinedimuije Paschal Opara

2. Deputy President General ____ Chief Anayo Okere

3. Secretary __ Mr Chikezie Nze

4. Assistant Secretary ___ Chief Ndume Anyanwu

5. Financial Secretary___ Hyacinth Ohaeri

6. Youth Leader __ Stanley Chinagorom Ekeocha

7. Woman Leader ___ Madam Charity Eke

8. Public Relations Officer ___ Udoka Ugwuadu Boniface

9. Assistant Youth Leader ___ Uchenna Njoku

Continuing, the release disclosed, “this directive supercedes every other directive (s) earlier issued in respect to the issue referred to”, the the statement read.

Meanwhile, some leaders from the community has commended the swift intervention of the Ngor Okpala Local Government Council boss, Hon Chika Ibekwe for taking a bold step which they viewed to have averted looming crisis in the autonomous community.
