A prominent figure in the banking and financial sector, Ezinwa Stanley Amuchie, has disclosed that every serious democracy recognizes the media as a central institution with the mandate and capacity to give voice to communities and people who would otherwise not be heard.

“This is because the suppressant of democracy and development do a hostile takeover of the administration of both instruments, allowing corruption spread quietly.Enabling the increase in abuse of office.A weak media midwife’s public policies that are shaped in darkness and secrecy thereby making citizens to lose trust, feel indifferent and disengage from their roles as responsible citizens”.
Speaking further, Amuchie who is an Executive Director/ Chief Operations & Information officer in Fidelity Bank , highlighted the emergence of smartphone as a significant challenge for newspapers, noting that multiple versions of news stories are often consumed via smartphones before newspapers hit the stands.
The Mbaise born philanthropist, added that the trend has led to a decline in circulation and reduced advertising revenue for printed editions,as brands redirect their budgets to social media and search engines.
Amuchie, cited the New York Times as an example of successful adaptation, with the publications now earning more revenue from digital subscriptions than print copies.
