Allegation against Gov.Uzodimma: Ngor Okpala Councillors stage walkout on LGA Chairperson, Legislative leader

It was gathered that during the session after briefing his colleagues on why the meeting was convened, Hon Agbugba had passionately appealed to them to sign a document to pass vote of confidence on him and the chairperson. However, the councillors bluntly refused to sign the document, even after the embattled leader had begged them with teary eyes to do that, if not for his sake but for the sake of his wife who he said was critically ill, to help him retrieve his sinking image and political fortune. Unfortunately for him despite his pleadings the lawmakees bluntly refused to document, and when he persisted they staged a Walkout from the meeting venue.

A desperate attempt by the embattled leadership of the executive and legislative arms of Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, to shore up their battered image by way of passage of confidence vote by Ward Councillors from the council, has reportedly hit the rocks, following the staging of a Walkout from a meeting called for that purpose, by the councillors.

According to comptent sources who were at the venue of the meeting held at a popular hotel located along the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Ngor Okpala, Hon Chibuike Agbugba and Hon Chika Ibekwe, Leader of the Legislative Council and Chairperson of the LGA, had hurriedly convened the meeting with the aim of securing confidence vote from the councillors, to counter the ongoing image battering they are facing in the wake of the coming into the open of the allegation leveled against Gov Hope Uzodimma by the Council Leader.

Recall that last Sunday, June 22, 2025, a voice note from a telephone conversation between Hon Agbugba and unnamed suspected supporter was relayed at an emergency general assembly meeting of Obiangwu Autonomous Community, held at the community’s town hall.

In the leaked clip the embattled councillor was heard telling the person he was discussing with that the Governor Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma had told him and his colleagues from the 27 local government areas of the state, that he had ceded Owerri Zone 2027 APC Senate ticket to Prince Alex Mbata, and also instructed them to work with him.

Angered by that action which they perceived as gross betrayal of trust of the people and the governor, provocative and capable of creating crisis in the party in Owerri zone, the community had strongly condemned the act, and further called for disciplinary action against him.

It is not only the people of Obiangwu community that the revelation had drawn their ire since it broke, as many stakeholders in APC Ngor Okpala and the council generally have seriously criticized the Legislative Council Leader, and the chairperson of the LGA over the issue.

The flopped meeting of yesterday,
therefore, was one of the emergency steps allegedly taken by the duo to see how to salvage their sinking image and name, but unfortunately it failed woefully.

It was gathered that their main grouse for refusing his overtures was that they were angry with him for betraying the trust bestowed on his office, as well as the mistreatment they have faced in his hand and that of the chairperson since they were sworn into office.

Sources close to the council leadership revealed that the refusal of the councillors to sign the confidence document left them dry and angry, leading to their threatening them that they stop paying them monthly impresit.

  1. It was also gathered that the duo are still desperately looking for ways to salvage the worsening situation, and may stage a make believe reception for purported new decampees into the party in the councillors ward any moment from now, for that same purpose.
