The leadership of the 9th Imo State House of Assembly has disclosed that despite political parties’ affiliation, the unity of the state lawmakers remains sacrosanct and cannot be toiled with.
Addressing publishers of Imo state-based newspapers at the weekend in Owerri, the Speaker, Rt Hon. Paul Emeziem .O. said under his watch, delivering the promises they (Lawmakers) made to their various constituencies and making laws that would be of great value to Imolites will be their major targets. He insisted that the era of division and bickering was over.
The Speaker assured the 9th Assembly would lend all the necessary support to the state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma in his efforts to build lasting legacies in the area of road networks and other social amenities in the state. He called on Imolites to be patient with the Shared Prosperity government, just as he assured that the present government will not fail Imolites.
He pointed out that the role of the press in checking the excesses of the legislature as well as the executive will be appreciated. However, he urged the newspaper proprietors to be objective in playing their watchdog roles and never allow saboteurs to influence their sense of judgment and assessment of government programmes.
Speaking also, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu, as well as Majority Leader, Hon. Uche Ogbuagu concurred with the Speaker’s assertion on the importance of the lawmakers to be united, insisting that no meaningful achievement can be recorded in an atmosphere of rancour and acrimony.
They pledged to give the executive arm of government their unalloyed support to accelerate holistic development in the state, urging the media to support the policies of the Shared Prosperity government of Senator Hope Uzodimma.
