As part of his contribution to empowering the youths in the society, especially in sports development, the founder of Akarachi Foundation has set aside a whopping sum of N25m for football tournament for the 24 INEC wards in Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Local Government Areas of Imo State.
Briefing members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN, Imo State Chapter in Owerri, the CEO of the Foundation and the donor of the trophy Prince Akarachi Amadi said that the essence of setting up the foundation is to learn helping hands to the society and people to achieve their goal in life.
He said that the foundation is also committed at reaching out to the youths of the Mbaitoli and Ikeduru areas with a view to empowering them educationally, health-wise, and financially.
While describing sports as the best means of gathering the people of the area, Akarachi said that football connects people from all strata of life.
He said the tournament which kicks off on 8th November 2020, would be featuring 24 teams from the two LGAs of Mbaitoli and Ikeduru, adding that already football kits numbering 24 and a sum of N50,000 have been advanced to each of the teams in preparation for the competition.
He assured his resolve to give each of the teams another N80,000 as the competition advances.
He disclosed that a sum of N1m has been set aside by the foundation for any team that would lift the trophy while a sum of N600,000 and an amount of N400,000 would be presented to the teams that would come 2nd and 3rd in their positions as the case may be.
He said that there would be an award of prizes to the best player, the highest goal scorer and the best coach.
The donor flanked with members of the planning committee said that the tournament which is meant to give right support base for the youths would offer an opportunity for talented players to be fished out for representation in any continental and international tournaments.
He used the briefing to appeal to the youths of the country to avoid delay in their life before looking for what they should do to be beneficial to their families, communities, state and the nation at large.
