An All Progressives Congress, APC, leader, Hon Bona Nwoke Dike, has lambasted the President – General of Olu Owerri, a socio-cultural organization in Owerri Zone, Chief Martin Opara because of his comment on the planned reception of Governor Hope Uzodinma by the APC in Owerri Zone.
Chief Opara, had in an interview, described the planned reception as a slap on the faces of the people of Owerri zone, “a dance on the grave of their ancestors,” and therefore warned them against it or be ostracized.
Reacting to the statement, yesterday, in Owerri, the Ngor Okpala-born, United States of America – trained technocrat, and administrator, berated
Chief Opara, reminding him that the nation’s constitution allows freedom of association, warning that his comment was capable of causing a breach of the peace, as well, an infringement on the fundamental right of the people.
According to Hon Nwoke Dike: “He’s invoking the spirit of the ancestors and threatening to ostracize bonafide sons and daughters of the soil, to say the least, is unfortunate and unexpected of a man who had held the high office of Director General, Imo State Orientation Agency.”
He was emphatic that the members of APC in Owerri zone have the right to organize a reception for the governor and that no amount of blackmail or threat will stop them, stressing that there cannot be two governors in a state at the same time.
Chief Nwoke Dike, went further to advice Chief Opara and others to desist from calling Governor Hope Uzodinma a Supreme Court governor because he is not the first governor to be declared so in Nigeria and will not be the last. He gave other examples of past Supreme Court declared governors like Peter Obi, Adams Oshomole, Rotimi Amaechi and others. Nwoke Dike had wished that Chief Opara will retract his comment and offer an apology to the people of Owerri zone.
