Ikpeazu lauded for revamping moribund Industries in Abia State By Emeka Akomas, Umuahia

The Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE Umuahia branch has lauded the state governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu and the Ministry of Industries for the resuscitation of Golden Guinea Breweries, Umuahia and the International Glass Industry, Aba stating that it will reduce the unemployment ratio of the state.
The group also called on the Abia State Ministry of Industries to make case for the inventory of most moribund and struggling industries in the state.
Engr. Uzoma Ohia, NSE Umuahia branch Chairman who made the call during a courtesy visit to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industries, Rev’d Engr. Mba Nkuma Emea also requested the ministry to evaluate the viable industries and help in resuscitating them. Pointing out that such actions will ensure that the economic region of Abia will flourish bountifully and will further help in strengthening the ongoing economic revolution in the state and the country at large.
He said, “It is also worrisome that most of our industries are still operating with obsolete machines and equipment, it is our desire that they will be encouraged to improve and upgrade to world’s acceptable standards. It is our belief that once these industries are revived and new ones established, employment opportunities will be created for the teeming populace whilst improving the state’s Internally Generated Revenue,” he said.
Ohia described as a remarkable achievement, the recent stakeholder’s validation workshop for Abia industrial policy document carried out by the Ministry, saying that it will go a long way in redefining and regulating the industrial sector in the state for an unprecedented leap into the anticipated industrialization of Abia and the country at large. He congratulating Engr. Emea on his elevation to the position of a Permanent Secretary in the State Civil Service and expressed confidence that the Permanent Secretary will draw from his wealth of experience acquired over the years, to continue the good performance of his predecessors.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industries, Rev’d Engr. Mba Nkuma Emea x-rayed the benefits of Abia Industrial policy document and called on all to contribute their ideas, as it will live beyond governments and generations.
He thanked God that engineers are beginning to take their rightful place in the State Civil Service and promised to put in his engineering experience into the Ministry, adding, “we will make an impact, no dull moment.”
