⦁ New GM vows to make difference
By Kelechi Ugo
The Imo State-owned Transport Company, ITC under the present Governor Hope Uzodimma of All Progressives Congress, APC seemed to has been totally relinquished to the control of career civil servants as there is no political merchant claimed to be the concessionaire of the Company since the inception of the Governor.
It would be recalled that one company called Ginikana Group owned by Chief Emeka Duru was the concessionaire of ITC during the regime of the former governor Rochas Okorocha, a situation that triggered incessant protests from the government parastatal workers and Franchise Bus Owners. Okorocha sacked Ginikana and brought in his crony, Prince Lasbery Okeaforanyanwu whom he later appointed Commissioner for Transport so as to oversee and manage the affairs of the State-owned transport company.
Luck also ran out of government parastatal workers when Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha came on board and constituted a committee led by one Aririguzo to oversee and manage ITC.
Former Governor Ihedioha later dissolved the committee and handed over ITC to a company called Transport Hub.
A fresh breath of life infused into the parastatal workers when Governor Hope Uzodimma after his Supreme Court victory directed the most senior civil servant to take over as the General Manager of Imo State Transport Company, ITC.
Our Correspondent who visited ITC terminal office, Owerri yesterday observed that there is a laid down framework towards bringing back the lost glory of the government parastatal.
Speaking, the new General Manager of ITC, Chief Ibe Iheanyichukwu C. stated that all his programmes and policies are tailored towards actualizing the 3R agenda of the executive governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma. Chief Ibe vowed to restore the lost glory of the Transport Company. He expressed happiness over the return of the State Transport Company to its original form. “We are under the supervision of the State Transport Ministry. It is no longer maximizing profit, but to render social services. Safety is our keyword. ITC belongs to the State Government, and it is service-oriented not for profit-making. We cannot afford to disappoint the Governor”, he promised.
Reacting to the COVID-19 guidelines and protocols, the ITC General Manager described coronavirus as a deadly disease that has recently killed millions of people as we as crippling the global economy thanking Governor Hope Uzodimma for his dogged fight against the spread of the virus in the State. ” Our Governor has been very proactive in carrying out control measures to forestall the spread of COVID-19 in Imo, and we shall continue to support him. ITC has adopted 100% compliance with the COVID-19 guidelines and protocols. Our vehicular sitting arrangement remains two passengers per seat. For instance, five passengers for Siena bus and nine passengers for 18 Seater bus,” Chief Ibe disclosed.
He further expressed happiness over the high turn-out of passengers through the instrumentality of the radio jingles. “I have adopted critical measures that will enable me to make a difference. We have been sensitizing and creating awareness about the new ITC under the regime of our dear governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma. And we shall leave no stone unturned in rendering effective services to Imo people”, the GM promised.
