The Interim Management Committee Chairman of Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, Hon. Emeka Iheanacho has disbursed 750 bags of fertilizer to the farmers in the area.
The fertilizer was shared among All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, 11 wards in the council area, including Amucha ward 1, Amucha ward 2, Nkume ward, Okwudor ward, Atta ward 1, Atta ward 2, Atta ward 3, Umuaka ward 1, Umuaka ward 2, Umuaka ward 3 and Umuaka ward 4.
Speaking, Hon. Emeka Ihenacho noted that the distribution of the fertilizer to the farmers is in line with the decision of the Executive Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma to boost food production. He charged the councillors and traditional rulers to ensure that the fertilizer gets to the genuine farmers adding that the governor will be happy if there is an improvement in food production in the next harvest season. The IMC Chairman recalled that series of palliative has been shared to his people during the COVID-19 lockdown revealing that more goodies are underway to Njaba LGA.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of AFAN, Njaba Chapter, Mr Emmanuel Odoemenam thanked the IMC. Chairman and Imo State Governor for demonstrating concern for food security in the state by donating fertilizer to the farmers. Mr Odoemenam revealed that there will be a huge food exhibition in December this year promising to ensure that there is abundant farm produce in the next harvesting season. He regretted that some politicians always hijack loans and other incentives mapped out for farmers by the government. “For instance, original farmers do not benefit from Anchor Borrowers scheme. No good road networks. The government should come to our aide by fixing roads for easy transportation of our farm produce,” the AFAN boss pleaded.
The high point on the occasion was the official unveiling of the office furniture procured by the Interim Management Committee of the LGA.
