The Imo State Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Prince Marcellinus Nlemigbo has accused the former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha of disregarding and disparaging the State’s present governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma.
Nlemigbo said this while fielding questions from newsmen in Owerri at the weekend.
He alleged that the actions of Okorocha are too embarrassing to both the party, the State and the governor as a person and wondered why a supposed leader of the party will waste his time and resources to destabilize the party.
He also said that Okorocha has thrown caution to the winds in his desperation to retain the structure of the party in Imo state in preparation for his 2023 presidential ambition.
Marcon cited the recent confusion which the party witnessed and the struggle for the chairmanship of the party in the buildup to the just concluded Okigwe zone Senatorial rerun primaries as likely instances of Okorocha’s desperation to cling onto power even after serving the State for eight years as governor.
Nlemigbo said that he and some stakeholders in the State saw these traits in Okorocha earlier which prompted them to shop for someone with the capacity and muscles to wrestle Okorocha to the ground, a process through which he said Governor Uzodimma was adopted.
He recalled that they took the risk of stopping Okorocha who he said planned to turn the Imo political space into his personal dynasty where he will continue to call the shots and decide who rules, adding that the governorship of the State would have remained in his family if they had not moved against him.
The APC Chairman said he is surprised that Okorocha still dreams of controlling Imo State party’s structure even when a new governor is in office and added that he has disparaged the State governor enough through pronouncements and court cases.
Speaking further, he said that Imo State is lucky to have a governor who is very peaceful, self-disciplined and brilliant to realize that the activities of Okorocha are only born out of frustration and desperation.
On Dan Nwafor’s effort to grab the chairmanship of the party in the State, Nlemigbo said he is surprised that Nwafor could dream about Imo State party chairmanship even after he dumped the party and migrated to the Action Alliance, AA party with Uche Nwosu shortly before the 2019 gubernatorial elections in the State and wondered if he would have returned to lay claims to the party chairmanship had Uche Nwosu won the governorship election from AA platform.
He urged Okorocha to desist from the negative campaigns he is carrying out against the governor through his aids if he still considers himself a true party man and rather use his present office in the Senate for the good of his Orlu Senatorial zone and the State in general, which he said he has not done till now.
Urging the people of Okigwe zone to vote for Frank Ibezim of APC so as to give the governor a backbone at the centre since Okorocha has failed to synergize with the governor even as an APC Senator.
Nlemigbo thanked the other APC aspirants who participated in the rerun primaries for their comportment, support and love for the party and assured them along. that the party will appeal to Senator Ifeanyi Araraume to tow the path of dignity and support Ibezim which he said will be in the overall interest of Okigwe Zone and Imo State in general.
