Ngor Okpala Farmers Association ready to partner NIRSAL -Nweke


The Interim Management Committee Chairman of Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Mayor Obinna Nweke, has assured that the Farmers Association in the area is ready to partner with the Nigerian Incentives Based Risk Sharing System for Agriculture Lending (NIRSAL).
Nweke disclosed this when the head of the agency, Mrs Nkechi Osuji visited the council headquarter at the weekend.
Speaking during the party, the IMC Chairman, Hon. Chief Mayor Obinna Nweke thanked the Head, PMRO NIRSAL and her team of officials on their purposeful visit to Ngor Okpala. He expressed delight that the team visited the LGA during this period the Governor gave a boast in the Agricultural Sector by providing over a thousand bags of fertilizer to aide Ngor Okpala farmers.
Nweke highlighted that the LGA has about seven existing registered farmers associations. He pointed out that Ngor Okpala Local Government Council Farmers Cooperatives Society alone has two hundred and fifty (250) members. He acknowledged that the anticipated partnership programme is a good idea.
Chief Nweke enquired from the NIRSAL officials what could be the equity contribution, cost-benefits analysis, training and off-takers for the programme. After receiving good feedback from Mrs Osuji and her team, Chief Nweke assured to organise the Ngor Okpala Farmers Cooperative Associations for tapping into the scheme.
He informed the visiting NIRSSAL team that he has already contacted his German partners for improved corn seedlings mechanised farming, emphasising he would soon create one of the biggest corn Markets in the LGA for supplying in huge quantities to Victoria Integrated Agro Farm Industry, companies in Benin and Cameroon.
In her speech, Mrs Osuji who first appreciated God for bringing Chief Mayor Nweke at the seat of authority as the IMC Chairman of Ngor Okpala Local Government Council. Also, she expressed gratitude to the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodinma for appointing a man of vision as Ngor Okpala Council Boss in this period of global economic challenges. She described Chief Mayor Nweke as a man with an enormous wealth of experience in Mechanised Agricultural System and Agro Business Investment.
She identified Ngor Okpala LGA as one of the LGAs that have arable land which could be properly utilized to improve the agricultural sector in the LGA. She informed the Ngor Okpala Council Chairman on possible ways to partner with Farmers Associations in the area in view of engendering agricultural development. She promised that NIRSSAL could guarantee loans to both commercial and substantive farmers and guide them towards venturing into areas of cropping with most comparative advantages.
