Families trapped after landslide-Nwachukwu

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Ecological Matters, Hon. Austin Nwachukwu visited befall disaster on Trinity street in Akwakuma Community in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State recently.
Hon.Nwachukwu opined that some families are trapped in their homes after a heavy downpour caused a landslide in the area.
He disclosed that the landslide incident resulted from a wide gully erosion which led to Irete Owerri -Onitsha road.
He described Imo State as mineral area of the country where natural disasters such as “erosion menses” can occure.
“I have seen by myself the devastation that has happened to the community.” He said.
On behalf of the state government and the governor of the State, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, he assured the people of the community that the state government will come to their rescue shortly, nothing that the disaster will attract the federal government in no distance time.
Mr Chigozie, one of the landlords of the residents and the chairman of the landlords in the area stated that they have invested more than one million five hundred thousand to ameliorate the situation. However, all their effort proved abortive. He then called on the state government to urgently come to their rescue before their homes are submerged in the gully erosion. He said Akwakuma community is one of the areas that has been battling with flood during rainy season.
Hon. Nwachukwu, thanked the Special Adviser to the Governor on Culture and Tourism, Hon. Chief Agugbue Odionyemma and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Hon. Nwokedi Stamford Arinze for accompanying him to the disaster area.
On behalf of the state government and the Governor of the State, he sympathized with the people of community and urged them to have faith in Sen. Hope Uzodimma, he is available to provide all their necessary needs.
