Ibezim drags INEC, Araraume to court

Frank Ibezim

As expected in the ongoing fierce battle between the two “last men standing,” Senator Ifeanyi Ararume and Frank Ibezim over who flies the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the 31st October 2020
by-election in Imo North Senatorial district, Ibezim according to sources has approached a Port Harcourt High Court to stop the Independent Electoral Commission, NEC from substituting his with Ararume’s name.
Recall that Ibezim was declared the winner by the Chairman and three other members of the primary election committee, while Ararume was declared the winner by the Secretary and two other members.
The matter was, however, called upon Friday last week, and was rescheduled for today being Monday 14th, September 2020.
Reportedly, Ibezim has all the backings of the APC state leadership ably led by the governor. His name has been submitted as the party’s flag bearer in the Imo North Senatorial bye-election. Allegedly he has been endorsed by the Acting National Chairman of the party.
Moreso, the date for submission of names by political parties as scheduled by INEC ended last Friday.
However, what is not certain is why Ibezim approached the court despite all the support.
