- Group urges Uzodimma
- Alleges Commissioner is being selfish while erosion sacks Imo residents
Imo State governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has been advised to sack the Commissioner for Environment Iyke Njoku for suspending Imo State Coordinator of NEWMAP, Engr Victor Anuyiagu for no justifiable reason, which has created rooms for non-control of the recent increase of erosion across the state.
In a press statement from a group known as Congress of Imo Patriots, signed by its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ifeanyi Okere, they revealed that the suspension of the NEWMAP project coordinator halted all World Bank assisted projects previously going on in Imo to the detriment of Imolites, calling on Governor Uzodimma to thoroughly investigate the matter and return Anuyiagu who according to the group has records of verifiable completed projects under his supervision.
“Is it not shameful that under Njoku’s watch as a Commissioner for Environment, Imo State Botanical Zoological Garden was ceded to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, an indication that he lacks the needed capacity and skills to man Ministry of Environment.
“Now he wants to have his stooge as Imo NEWMAP project coordinator. It is very certain that his action is anti shared prosperity policy of our dear governor.
“Governor Uzodimma should as a matter of urgency call him to order before he smears his reputation before the World Bank organization.
If not for selfish interest, what could have moved him to plan to install someone whom he can “remote.”
“He had earlier denied any involvement in the suspension of Engr Anuyiagu, but sensing that Governor Uzodimma would not support his selfish plan, hurriedly asked his media aide to prepare a press release, where he exonerated our Governor from the suspension.
“Before then he told anyone who cared to listen that he had no hand on Anuyiagu’s suspension, but recapped to justify his ulterior motives. The guilty, they say is always afraid. Now, the question is, why does he want Anuyiagu to resign while on suspension? Does it mean there are things the Commissioner is hiding or does not want Governor Uzodimma to know?
“ The most annoying aspect of this is that many residents across Imo local governments have been sacked by erosion menace, people are being trapped inside their homes, both human movement and vehicular movement halted, yet the man saddled with the responsibility of reporting such cases and making sure Imo gets the needed support from World Bank was sacked just for selfish reasons.
“Njoku should humble himself and study the operations of the Environment Ministry he was mandated to head and allow Anuyiagu who is a seasoned Engineer with proven integrity with World Bank for over seven years do his job. They have confidence that resources under his care would be managed judiciously. More so various World Bank assisted projects under his watch recorded huge success.
“Njoku should not tarnish Governor Uzodimma’s image just because of his 2023 Federal House ambition. It is obvious with this singular act that he has made himself an enemy of the state in disguise,” they stated.
