  • As APC National Chairman backs Nlemigbo

The expectations of contestants for Okigwe Senatorial bye-election, under Daniel Nwafor, the factional chairman of Imo All Progressives Congress APC, seem to have hit the rock following a press statement from the national secretariat of the leading party backing Marcon Nlemigbo led executives.
Though it is believed that “a day is very dangerous in politics,” political pundits are of the view that there may not be time to upturn the lasting decision of the National body citing Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma who is backing Nlemigbo as a tough political player who one underrates at his peril.
A press statement signed by H.E Gov. Mai Malla Buni, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), APC stated, “as is our usual practice to inform the commission, whenever there is an order of court affecting the party , we therefore wish to bring to your notice the present situation with respect to the Imo State chapter of the party.
a. The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress on the 18th December, 2018 dissolved the Imo State Executives under the leadership of Mr. Daniel Nwafor. The NWC furthermore in line with Article 13.4 xvi of the Constitution of the All Progressives Congress set up a Caretaker Committee under the leadership of Chief Marcel Nlemigbo to oversee the affairs of the Imo State Chapter of the APC pending the conduct of fresh congresses in Imo State.
b. Following the dissolution of the Daniel Nwafor led State Executives, they instituted an action in court in SUIT NO: FCT/HC/BW/CV/103/2018 BETWEEN EVAN ENWEREM VS ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS & 2 ORS and judgement was delivered in favour of the dissolved Imo State Executives led by Mr. Daniel Nwafor.
c. The party has filed an Appeal against the said judgement delivered in the above mentioned suit in APPEAL NO CA/ABJ/CV/657/2020; ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS VS EVAN ENWEREM & 2 ORS and equally filed an application for stay of execution and an injunction pending the determination of the Appeal.
d. On the 16th of July 2020 after hearing arguments from both counsels, the court on page 9 of it’s ruling ordered as follows “AN ORDER is hereby made restraining the 3rd Defendant/Counterclaimant (Mr. Daniel Nwafor) either by himself, officers, agents, subordinates or any person claiming through him from enforcing or giving effect to the judgement of this court delivered on the 14/08/2018 in FCT/HC/BW/CV/103/2018, pending the determination of the appeal filed by the 1st Defendant/Applicant (All Progressives Congress). Please find attached herewith a copy of the said ruling delivered by the Honourable Court.
From the above, the present situation is that, Mr. Daniel Nwafor until there is a contrary order of court, is restrained from conducting himself as the Chairman of the Party in Imo State. Therefore, the status quo has reverted back to the Chief Marcel Nlemigbo led Caretaker Committee.
As is our usual practice, we shall inform the commission immediately there is a contrary Order of Court or Judgement in respect of the above matter or any other matters affecting any of the State Chapters of the All Progressives Congress.”
