The ongoing rehabilitation of MCC road

road construction site in Owerri

If there is one area that the present administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma is doing well, it is on road rehabilitation. The governor has rehabilitated the popular Douglass road, port Harcourt road and others. These roads have enormous economic benefits to the people of this state and the South-East in general. Evidently, there have been unhindered vehicular movement through these roads and the people are happy about this development. The multiplier effect is enormous.
Right now, the recovery and rehabilitation efforts of Governor Hope Uzodimma have been shifted to the popular MCC road to Eke Mmegbuoha market road. The ongoing dualization is commendable.
Edge Express newspaper is calling on the governor and the contractors handling the road to endeavour to reconstruct the entire road of MCC to end. In as much as we congratulate the governor for this ongoing road revolution in the state, we, however, request that the gully extending from Chukwuma Nwoha junction of the MCC road be attended to as soon as possible. The wide and deep gutter has disrupted businesses around the area and operators are presently out of business. We appreciate the good intentions of the government on this road but urge speedy construction, so that those businesses currently affected on MCC road can go back to work.
We also urge the governor to speed up construction before the rains set in fully. It would be good to have the entire MCC road in order before the rain, especially as the road has been badly damaged. The completion of that road before the rain would save a lot of inconveniences currently suffered by people who use the road.
While the MCC road reconstruction is going on, Edge Express newspaper also requests that attention of the government should not only be on roads within the state capital. Several roads in neighnouring communities like the Irete-Ndegwu road in Owerri West LGA need urgent attention. Orlu town and their neighouring communities need urgent attention of government on their roads. So also does Okigwe town need urgent government intervention on their roads.
Above all, we ask the government to ensure proper supervision and monitoring of these roads to guarantee their quality.
However, Edge Express newspaper is happy with Uzodimma’s road rehabilitation efforts and believe that very soon the issue of bad roads in Owerri municipality will become history. We pray that this also be extended to Orlu and Okigwe communities as well.
