Governor Okezie Ikpeazu Of Abia State has described education as best legacy parents should bequeath to their children and relations.
Ikpeazu in his address at the unveiling of Pa Ishmael Ikpeazu Memorial Library and the presentation of a book, “Thoughts of a scholar in governance,” a compilation of the speeches, lectures and broadcasts of the governor of Abia State. He noted that he is building the library to immortalize his late father who made a lot of sacrifices to see him and his siblings through academically, but died untimely without reaping the fruits of his labour.
He disclosed that the library is vicar hope foundation’s milestone project, “providing a nexus between leadership and heritage, inspiring innovation and academic excellence. The library shall provide a revealing insight into the life of Pa Ishmael Ikpeazu and his progenitors, encapsulation the historical sojourn of a man whose love for education propelled his young son Okezie to acquire a doctorate degree before he turned 30.
“The library will parade millions of digital and printed books. A large section of the library will be dedicated to enhancing access to information and communication technology.”
Similarly speaking on the life and times of their father, Barrister Ifeanyi Ikpeazu described their father as a patient, wonderful, and eloquent speaker of no match. He added “my mind and spirit are in agreement that the best legacy to be bequeathed to mankind in memory of the philosopher King should be the establishment of a library to sustain the dream of my late father.”
Presenting the book, Abia State University Vice chancellor, Uche Ikonne A. described the book as “analytical and not a tale from moonlight, with each line conveying a meaning.” He also explained that, “the book will make a happy reading.”
The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, his wife and members of his EXCOS and other dignitaries from across the country were in attendance.
