- As both factions issue counter instructions on nomination/EOI forms
By AFAM Echi
where to collect the nomination forms for the 31st October Okigwe Senate seat by-election.
The confusion results from two conflicting instruction issued same time by the two factional leaders of the party in the state.
One of the factional leaders, Barr Marcellinus Nlemigbo had in a release dated August 22nd signed by his Media Aide, Hon Emma Nnadi instructed the aspirants to proceed to the Okigwe road office of the party to collect the forms which they were requested to return completed by Monday.
In the same vein, the Daniel Nwafor led faction had also advised the aspirants to approach the national secretariat office of the party in Abuja to obtain the form which must be completed and returned same Monday. They stated this in a release signed August 22nd by F .C .C Jones Onwuasoanya, the State Publicity Secretary.
An excerpt from the message reads. “This notice serves as official disclaimer on any individual or group of individuals who may claim to be selling forms on behalf of the party in Imo State. The characters behind such deception are notorious fraudsters who are desperate to swindle unsuspecting persons in the guise of working for our party.”
The memo further warned applicants to ensure that they are qualified to run cautioning against any act that may further affect the party’s position or put it at risk.
It would be recalled that both Nwafor and Nlemigbo have been at each other’s jugular as they gun for the Soul of Imo APC-as per who is the party chairman. The matter is a subject of dispute in the court.
While Nlemigbo has been performing the functions of a state chairman attending all the national assignment of the party, Nwafor is laying strong claim that the law backs him as the authentic chairman of the party
The risk the aspirants run is being disqualified should they follow a wrong person who may not be recognized by law and per chance they win the election. The die is cast and the Imo North Senate by-election may be the joker that will throw up the authentic APC chairman.
In a reaction glimpsed from the Social Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, Media Adviser to former Governor Okorocha stated that the instruction on collection of nomination form from the national office of the party was very clear and queried why Nlemigbo would be misleading the people.
In his words, so where do we place what Nlemigbo did in Owerri today? And if the submission of the forms would be on Monday August 24, why did he wait till today being Saturday August 22, to start the ‘sale’ of his own forms? People like Nlemigbo have succeeded in giving the government an image; one could only say is regrettable.
