professional bodies charged with the responsibility of growing accountants in the country.
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Michael C.Arimanwa made the disclosure at the weekend in his office while playing host to the Association of Mbaitoli Journalists (AMJ) who paid him a courtesy call.
Said he, ”ICAN has made this place a center for examination for ICAN examinations and lectures, lecturers here and professionals from town would constitute the resource persons. This is to get our students qualify professionally as soon as they are graduating, an advantage enjoyed by students in Lagos and other places.”
He explained that this would bridge the gap for the students who have to complete the youth service programs before writing the professional exam and which gives an edge to their counterparts elsewhere who write the exam before graduating.
The Obazu Mbieri born engineer used the occasion to debunk the allegation made against him by a staff of the institution to the effect that he instructed collection of gratification from job applicants before they can be given jobs.
Arimanwa described the allegation as a bundle of lies informing that the accuser is now in court over the issue and expressed optimism that his innocence would be proved eventually by the court, querying “why did none of the people he claimed I collected money from not show up.”
In his words, “there is no way as a chief executive that I will tell him to go and collect money from people who are unemployed. It is not part of his duty and cannot be at all. We will let the Court decide.
“I am someone who believes in the rule of law and likes to follow due process. If I had wanted to handle him the way people advised he might not have had the time to go to Court at all. He may have been in detention.
”We chose to follow a process, all the invitation we extended to him, he ignored all of them and in some cases he would claim to be sick and cannot say anything. The management tried to speak with him, the disciplinary committee too, even the Police and the Directorate of State Security (DSS) have invited him and he ignored all the invitations. When we meet in Court we will then know if he has the right to ignore all the statutory bodies as he did”
The rector also catalogued series of his achievements which he said can be verified by the journalists. More reports in the next edition.
