Awarra palace chiefs disown kidnap suspect’s claim

The palace Chiefs of the Awarra Autonomous Community in Ohaji/Egbema LGA has condemned the news making round that Awarra Autonomous Community’s traditional ruler was involved in a kidnap act after a recent wide open police world press conference that paraded one Andrew Okuwegbunwa as the community’s traditional ruler kidnap suspect.
In a press release, signed by Nze Henry Nwulu, the Traditional Prime Minister of the community, Mr Paul Otugbuali Secretary and Mr Saturday Oparaji, the Acting President General of the community.
It was stated that Mr Andrew is not the community’s traditional ruler, that the authentic, government and community recognized traditional ruler gazzeted in the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers Act is Eze Andrew Nwakolam Ezenwoke that nobody again except him is the traditional ruler of the community.
The release made available to newsmen from the Eze’s palace in Awarra Autonomous Community, the palace chiefs, each from the 15 villages that made up of Awarra Autonomous Community in strong terms had condamned the claim.
According to the release, Andrew Okuwegbunwa the suspect is not our traditional ruler, but a citizen of the community by birth in Obor village Igburu clan Awarra community.
The palace chiefs appreciated Nigerian police for working tooth and nail to unravel crime in the community but frowned that proper and detailed investigations were not carried out to know who is the substantive traditional ruler of the community before making such grievous mistake of calling Mr. Andrew Okuwegbunwa the community’s traditional ruler.
They described it as an aberration, disrespect, total slap on the side of the community and steps towards dragging the community’s name to the mud when Mr. Andrew Okuwegbunwa the suspected kidnapper is neither, a traditional ruler nor recognized as a leader in the community.
They pointed out that in the community, for someone to attend the height of been recognized as a traditional ruler of the community, such person must have had what the community called Ishiikpara to Ikowaishi, Nwaripi and Igba-uzu ie become Nzenaozo which is the highest stage of honor to be recognized and that Mr. Andrew Okuwegbunwa never had any one of the above mentioned titles before the community let alone holding the position of a traditional institution.
The chiefs appealed to public and police and all other bodies to discountenance themselves from regarding the kidnap suspect Mr. Andrew Okuwegbunwa as traditional ruler.
The community authorities warned that whosoever that does such again is mistaking and that the community will not be happy with that. “He is not our traditional ruler.”
“We have condemned his act as a citizen of our community and cannot condole it,” they maintained.
