Following perceived backwardness of Ikwuano people in the Abia State politics and its negative impact on the development of the area, a former State Publicity Secretary of the Social Democratic Party, SDP and new member of the APC, Hon. Ikechi Onyekachi Osondu has called for Abia governor of Ikwuano extraction, come year 2023.
Speaking during the presentation, interactive and reception ceremony in his honour by the All Progressive Congress, APC Oboro Ward 3 at Fortitude Lodge, Ndoro-Oboro in Ikwuano L.G.A of Abia State, Hon. Osondu lamented that Ikwuano for the past years has played a second fiddle in Abia politics, insisting that time is ripe for the people to become relevant.
“Ikwuano people are seen as second class politicians without making even. We need to become relevant, it is time for Ikwuano to produce Abia governor. We should believe, profess and make a decision that Ikwuano must produce the State Governor. We should also know that divided faith kills a dream, so we should guide against it.
“A senator or house of representative member cannot provide the needed development we aspired and long for. We need a governor who can help Ikwuano out of her pity situation. So, if we need development, we have to think about what will give us development. We need to be strong and united in preparation for the victory for Ikwuano people in a very short time. We should prepare ourselves for a greater heights.”
He said Ikwuano sons like a former National Organizing Secretary of the SDP and former House of Representative member, Hon. Emeka Atuma is capable to occupy the number one seat of the state, following his antecedents and indelible footprints on the sands of time.
On why he joined the APC, Hon. Osondu said he want to be part of Abia rescue team that will bring the desired change in Abia State in 2023.
His words, “We planned a united force to change the narrative not just to join the APC without aim and target. Our aim is to win election in the state not to fail and go into obscurity. We are not foreigners in your midst, we are now part of you, our coming together is best described as unilateral movement to make sure APC gain strength in Abia State.”
Osondu assured the party members that the interest of APC Oboro Ward 3 is of utmost important to him, adding, “I have demonstrated this, when I was in the SDP. I don’t do things for personal interest, I follow the doctrine of self sacrifice in order to move forward. I believe in the politics of no permanent enemy but one permanent interest with a goal to achieve success. Our aim is to unite APC Oboro Ward 3 and make it a strong force to reckon with. We are in APC to add value to what is existing in the party.”
Welcoming Hon. Ikechi Onyekachi Osondu to the party, the Vice chairman APC Oboro Ward 3, Ernest Enyinnaya Ogu, who represented the ward Chairman said the party has extended its hands to welcome others, as victory remained the last hope of the party, come year 2023 election.
Respectively, Local government executives of the party, Mr. Okenwa Okenwa, Godfrey Kanu among others pointed out that Ward 3 remained the center of Ikwuano politics and with the caliber of persons who joined the party like Hon. Emeka Atuma, Chief Henry Ikoh, Hon. Ikechi Onyekachi Osondu, Mr. Wilson Onyebuchi Mkpoku, the APC Ward 3 is building a very formidable force, which will be extended to other wards in Ikwuano.
