Imo NURTW Chairmanship: Okebaram steps aside as Okorie resumes duty

The Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Imo State Council, Comrade Izuchukwu Okebaram (Bora) has officially stepped aside for Prince Davidson Okorie popularly known as “One Man Squad” to act as the chairman of the union henceforth.
Speaking at the handover event which was held at the Union’s office, Okebaram said the appointment of Okorie is welcome by the entire members of the union, describing him as a unionist who has the interest of the members at heart. He is also known to be ready to defend their interest against all odds, he added.
He assured of the union preparedness to give the new chairman maximum support needed to achieve the aim of the shared prosperity government, urging all members of the union to give their unalloyed support.
Speaking further, the outgoing chairman thanked the state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma for recalling sacked 25,000 members of the union. He also expressed appreciation for the appointment of Okorie, while berating the Park Manager, Chief Ifeanyi Okorie for his unfriendly cum anti-union character that would have led to chaos if not for the matured manner it was handled.
Okebaram also thanked Gov. Uzodimma for his quick intervention as well as other government appointees in resolving the disagreement.
In response, Prince Okorie thanked the union members for adopting him as their chairman and assured of his maximum cooperation.
Okorie who urged the members to ensure their attitude at work promotes Gov. Uzodimma’s policies, also warned them to avoid displaying characters capable of tarnishing the image of the union as well as bringing reproach to the government of the day.
According to “One Man Squad” as he is fondly called, the greatest mistake, the Imo Park Manager made was to interfere with the union’s job schedule. He said Okafor’s company, Lasberger’s Links WA Limited job was properly defined to them. They are to sell tickets to “Bus Imo” drivers and not to be loading and offloading in Imo motor parks, maintaining that loading and offloading functions are for the NURTW.
He however asked the recalled union members to go back to their various duty posts and overlook the claims of Okafor and his team.
Okorie in addition promised to construct a befitting office for the union before the expiration of his tenure and calls for cooperation, peace, and unity amongst members.
