A bill for a law to establish a Bureau to coordinate, supervise and monitor projects undertaken by donor and development partners in Imo State was passed by the Imo State House of Assembly yesterday before they embarked on a two-month recess.
The sponsor of the bill and member for Ikeduru State Constituency, Amb. Uche Ogbuagu notes that this would boost the confidence of development partners as they will see the seriousness on the part of the State Government to instill accountability and probity in the conduct of its businesses.
He regretted that previous governments were not reliable in utilising grants by these donor agencies as most of the funds were diverted to private pockets and white elephant projects which have no meaningful impact on Imolites.
For his part, the Speaker of Imo House of Assembly, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Chiji Collins says three persons each from the three senatorial districts in the state would make up the Bureau and that they would be appointed by the Governor.
The Bill received massive support by members of the Legislature as they described the bill as coming at the nick of time.
