Leverage for Athan Achonu

Athan Achonu
  • As Imo APC excos endorse him

By Sunday Awulonu

The Okigwe Senatorial aspirant for the All Progressive Congress (APC) ticket, Senator Athan Achonu, may have received the blessings of the state executive officers if the encomium showered at him at the party secretariat is anything to go by.
Tuesday, the Okigwe born chief paid a visit to the state officials at the state office along Okigwe road, Owerri, where he declared his intention to run for the Imo North Senatorial seat.
He was received on arrival by the Chairman, Barr Marcellinus Nlemigbo who described him as a grassroot man that knows the route.
In his words, “Achonu is a driver that has authentic license to drive Okigwe Zone to the promise land. Okigwe people should mobilize more support to make the journey smoother for him. Achonu is a friend of the governor. The governor needs people like him in the Senate to bring home more development .’’
He advised the aspirant to reach out to other stakeholders like Chief Tony Chukwu to have an elaborate and formidable force while applauding him for the organized manner he is carrying on his campaign.
Nlemigbo expressed appreciation that unlike the other aspirants he was able to recognize the ward, local government, and state organs of the party which he said made him a grassroots person.
He promised that the party will give him maximum support in his quest to get to the Senate adding that the party is grateful for the exemplary support that he has shown to the governor.
In his comment, Achonu stated that after the death of Senator Ben Uwajumogu he felt that he is the only candidate that can give Okigwe quality representation in the Senate.
According to him, “I came to correct the wrongs of the past. I came to bring development back to Okigwe just like I was doing before my tenure was truncated. Araraume has gone for 8 years, I was there for 6 months, equity demands that I complete my 4 years.’’
He decried the factions in the party and appealed to the state executive committee to reconcile all the factions to form a united and formidable APC that will enable the party win the position.
“A house divided in itself cannot stand to win external battles like Okigwe Senate. The Excos are formidable and has the capacity to unite the party as factionality is not good for the party. In the spirit of charity beginning at home, I will unite all factions in Okigwe zone,” he assured.
Achonu further promised to support the party financially, morally and otherwise adding that he will support Uzodinma to bring massive development to the state.
Before the commencement of the event, a one minute silent was observed in honour of late Uwajumogu.
