Imo state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, yesterday commissioned NCDC emergency operation centre.
The National Centre for Disease Control team were lead by Dr. Everestus Aniaku.
Speaking at the event Uzodimma stated,” As a Government, we played our part in the decision of the NCDC to site the EOC at the Imo Specialist Hospital as a way of enhancing awareness in the state as regards the COVID-19 pandemic and other infectious diseases with a view to tackling them.
“I Commend the NCDC over the project. As a Government saddled with the responsibility of improving the lot of our people, we will not joke with any effort made directly or indirectly to enhance the well being of Imo people through the establishment of health facilities to deal with already known and unknown diseases. As a Government we will continue to improve on our preparedness to tackle any health challenges that may confront our people.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has not only challenged the entire world but has opened the eyes of government to partnerships in the area of health that can help guarantee the good health of the citizenry if properly put to use. In Imo today, we are now able to manage any incidence of infectious diseases that may come into the state at any given time.
“I applauded the NCDC team for finding Imo State worthy of the EOC and I plead with the team to ensure that those they have come to train at the Centre will be in a position to train others when they have left.
“As a facility to help deal with the COVID-19 pandemic and other health related issues, we will work to ensure that the place is not only put to good use, but will be self-sustaining. The awareness which the facility will create in the state and beyond cannot be overemphasized.
“We thank the federal Government and other development partners for partnering with the state in this regard.”
