Ogbuagu drags Nwawuba, aides to EFCC over alleged fraud

Uche Ogbuagu

The honourable member representing Ikeduru State Constituency and the Majority Leader, Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Uche Ogbuagu, has petitioned an anti-graft agency over allegations of fraud on youth empowerment program for Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency.
In a copy of the petition sighted by Edge Express, the legislator has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate all those involved for alleged misapplication, embezzlement, fraud, and diversion of funds accruing to the constituency amounting to over N5bn.
The said amount was to fund the empowerment program of youths for the constituency from June 2015 to March 2020. He lamented the deplorable state of infrastructure and high youth unemployment in the area which he said calls for judicious use of funds attracted to the area.
An excerpt from the petition reads,
”This petition and the annexures are intended to draw attention of your agency to the fraud and scam in the federal constituency from June 2015 to March 2020 for your forensic expertise, analysis, and comprehensive enquiry in order to ascertain the genuine nature of the purported empowerment
”This is more so because, it is the standard best practice for appropriate monies to be accounted for because collective ownership hangs on the funds, irrespective of who occupies the office.
”The gleaming duplications, inconsistencies, contradictions, and repeatedly difficult to understand reasoning particularly the senseless, laughable arithmetic over the NDDC Agric Empowerment Funds and so many other expenses that don’t add up, calls for serious question and cast reasonable doubt on the transparency with which the constituency federally allocated funds through House of Representatives is being managed.
”Let me also draw your kind attention, that it will therefore not be a surprise if the records are mutilated, for we are very much aware that attempts are being made to tamper with records as I write”.
It would be recalled that earlier Nwawuba’s aides have been alleged to indulge in extortion whereby the beneficiaries of the youth empowerment scheme in the Federal Constituency who got N500,000 were forced to part with N250,000. This was after they allegedly parted with some funds before the extortion of half their payments.
When Ogbuagu was confronted on the allegations that his petition was designed to give him an edge in 2023 in which he is alleged to be eyeing he had this to say.
”It has nothing to do with 2023. I want to remind the people that Henry Nwawuba and Francis Ezenwa Onyewuchi rode to power based on my influence. They are not doing anything to benefit their constituents as I speak. Why should we allow any little thing attracted to the area to be defrauded by a few people instead of getting to the beneficiaries directly.”
