Market Associations in the State have been told to select their leaders in the most decent way instead of engaging in rancor or mudslinging when they want to select those who will oversee their activities.
The Honourable Member Representing Ikeduru State Constituency and Majority Leader Imo State House of Assembly, Amb. Uche Ogbuagu declares this when the re-elected Market Chairman of Nkwo- Imo in Amaimo Ancient Kingdom paid him a visit after the election of the market which returned him elected.
The legislator praised the four traditional rulers of the villages which make up Amaimo and other Leaders in the area for the peaceful way they assisted in conducting the elections which went freely, despite the initial hitches. He declared that his love for Amaimo in particular and Ikeduru in general prompted him to reconstruct and modernize the market to its present standard among other markets in Ikeduru. Ogbuagu charges them to carry everybody along, keep the market in good condition as well as maintain high health standard as stipulated by the government in this time of COVID-19 pandemic which has taken world economy by the storm. He urged the newly elected market Chairman Ezinwa Franklin Uchenna Okoro to maintain the cool headedness, which made the people to re-elect him.
He assured that he will always maintain his detribalized nature as a representative of the people not minding their political inclinations. Amb, Uche Ogbuagu used the opportunity to announce the empowerment of 40 small scale traders, 10 from each of the Villages in Amaimo Ancient Kingdom. According to him, each of the beneficiaries will get a loan of N250,000 which they will plough into their businesses and pay back in a year time. Amb. Ogbuagu explains that other parts of Ikeduru will also benefit from this current largesse.
He also decried the reasons why such grants and schemes fail due to the inability of the people to commit it into the ventures they initially indicated. He called on those who will benefit from the empowerment to ensure they utilize it effectively so as to sustain the tempo of the programme and enable him to do more. He explains this gesture as what is normally seen during elections, but due to his love for the people, he would not relent in putting smiles on their faces.
For his part, the re- elected market chairman, Ezinwa Uchenna Franklin Okoro, who was accompanied by the Secretary Mr. Alaribe Chijioke, described Amb. Ogbuagu as a selfless Leader who is not afraid to take risks on behalf of the people he is representing, and also as a man, who has the welfare of his constituents at heart and goes to any length to ensure the happiness of the greater majority. He described the gesture as first in history in decades when an elected official does not tell stories but down to earth in listening to his people’s challenges.
He praised the sterling qualities found in Amb. Ogbuagu and pledged that he will do his best in ensuring that peace exists in the market.
Present during the visit were the wife of the Honourable Member Mrs. Nkeiru Uche Ogbuagu, a Great son of Mbaike, Mr. Chukwudi Ofoha and his Personal Aides.
