As Isdore harasses Journalists
Youths of Mbaitoli, Ikeduru Federal Constituency who benefitted from Niger Delta Ministry, Agric Empowerment Fund, has accused aides of Hon. Henry Nwawuba, a federal lawmaker of defrauding them.
Addressing newsmen on Monday at Tiger Base Station, Police Headquarters, Owerri, Prince Chikwendu Nwansi and Okezue Ugwushie, narrated how Samuel Nwokeocha and Isdore Chukwuemeka, who Edge Express gathered are Nwawuba’s aides, were making frantic efforts to defraud them of N250,000 from the N500,000 that was given to them as the Agricultural Empowerment Fund. The youths said they have been made to pay some money to the duo, before they started demanding for a huge sum of N250,000 .Their refusal to comply landed Prince Nwansi to station where he sustained serious injuries as a result of manhandling.
Prince Nwansi, who was earlier arrested, was however left of the hook on Monday, with the intervention of Hon. Uche Ogbuagu representing Ikeduru Local Government in the State House of Assembly.
Speaking earlier, a stakeholder in Ikeduru, Mr Goddy Ibeawuchi, who disclosed they were at the Police IGP-IRT Imo unit command to seek the release of Prince Nwansi, insist their citizens were defrauded and cheated. He pointed out that those who never participated in the programme should not benefit, stating in clear terms that the money was meant for only the participants.
A human right lawyer and activist, Jeff Igweaka however, vowed to follow the matter to a logical conclusion. He said such allegation should not be swept under the carpet without proper investigation, adding that he would demand for investigation report to further sue the accused.
Meanwhile Isdore, who was visibly angry with the presence of newsmen who were around to get update on the matter, nearly attacked journalists ,but for the intervention of Ogbuagu and others. What is not certain is why he was not comfortable with the presence of newsmen.
