The crises in the Imo All Progressives Congress (APC) may be taking a turn for the worst if the discordant tune originating from the party is anything to go by.
Following the dissolution of the National Working Committee (NWC) last week by the National Executive Committee (NEC), a faction of the party in the state led by Hon. Dan Nwafor issued a congratulatory message to the newly inaugurated National APC Caretaker Committee Chairman.
In a statement personally signed by the State Chairman Dan Nwafor, the Imo State chapter of the party expressed confidence that the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee led by the Executive Governor, Yobe State, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni, is a square peg in a square hole.
The chairman further commended the intelligence of President Buhari which he claimed has restored sanity in the party even as he urged APC members especially those of Imo extraction to keep party interest above self.
However, in a Press release dated June 26, 2020, signed by the Director General Imo APC Media Centre, Cajetan Duke and made available to Edge Express, the media chieftain denied the existence of any factional APC in Imo, urging the members to disregard the congratulatory message.
An excerpt of the release state thus, ”though worthless and not deserving of our response but for clarification purposes and the benefits of our teeming members we want to make it manifestingly clear that the APC in Imo has no two chairmen. We do not have two factions either. Imo state APC is a one united family held under one article of faith and ably led by our indefatigable nay visionary Chief (Barrister) Marcellinus Nlemigbo as Chairman and His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope as the leader of the party.
”Against this background we call on members of APC to disregard the misdirected advertorial. It was inappropriate and wrongly conceived. We have every reason to proclaim it to the roof top that it was wrongly targeted as well as wrongly signed as it has doubtful authorship.”
It would be recalled that shortly upon dissolution of the NWC a section of the party supporters in the state leapt for joy applauding the action which they claim would restore peace in the party.
The former national Chairman of the party Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was among the casualties that lost out in the power play which climaxed with the hammer of the NEC falling on the NWC.
It would be recalled that earlier in our previous reports, factional groups in the Imo APC have been identified as exemplified by the Dan Nwafor led APC, the group led by Chief Nlemigbo Marcellinus and the faction led by another bigwig, Chief Ifeanyi Araraume.
