Uzodimma will recover lost oil wells – Opiah

The Apex Leader of Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency and the Coordinator for Petroleum, Oil and Gas Matters to the Governor, Rt. Hon. Goodluck Nanah Opiah, on Sunday assured the people of Imo State that Governor Hope Uzodimma is committed to recovering all the lost oil wells from the neighbouring Rivers State.

He gave the assurance during a reception organized in his honour by an illustrious son and business mogul from Agwa, Oguta Local Government Area, Dr. Collins Jumbo, in Owerri.

Opiah disclosed that since the inception of democracy in 1999, Governor Hope Uzodimma is the only Governor of the state that has shown special interest in the oil sector. “I am aware that one of the objectives of the Governor is to recover all our lost oil wells from the neighbouring Rivers State. God willing, we are going to recover all the oil wells. You know also that Imo State is the landlord to eight oil producing companies in the state but we have nothing to show for it in all the oil producing communities. The Governor does not think we should continue that way,” he said.

He called on the stakeholders in the state, especially those from the oil producing areas, to come together for the common goal. “I want to use this opportunity to call on our people who are into Oil and Gas to warm up. I see this as a challenge. The Governor is sending out a clarion call to all our people in the Oil and Gas sector to come together, so that for the first time we shall have a different Imo as an oil producing state. We need to come together to achieve the objective so that posterity will have us on the positive side of history, and so that our children will not ask us questions that we cannot answer,” he said.

Opiah added that there is no room for playing to the gallery in the state government, noting that anybody who wants to play to the gallery should jettison the thought.

“For all the stakeholders in Ohaji-Egbema and Oguta LGAs, this is not the time for anybody to behave rascally. It is time for all of us to put on our thinking caps. I hear that some people are planning to come for a demonstration this week. In fact, they planned to do the demonstration on Monday, but they have resolved that since the Governor would not be around on Monday, they would do so on a day he would be around, so that they could make some noise. But they have nothing to achieve with their demonstration.

“Please, tell these people that this is not the time for rabblerousing or playing to the gallery. This is not the time for nonentities to continue to play with the fortunes of our people. This is not a time for people like them, but a time for serious minded people. We cannot fold our hands and watch them continue to play with Ohaji-Egbema-Oguta and Oru West”, he warned. In attendance at the event were: Hon Enyinna Onuegbu (Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Physical Planning), Hon Oby Ajoku (Commissioner for Livestock management), Engr. Tony Okanne (Director NDDC Imo), Emeka Nzeibe (SA to Imo Governor), Saviour Okiiro (SA Traffic Management), Hon.
