- Uzodimma’s appointees shun swearing-in event
The Interim Management Committee Chairman of Ngor Okpala Local Government, Chief Mayor Obinna Nweke, has appointed and sworn-in 42 aides with no clear definition of what their functions would be.
The appointments, however has been criticized by stakeholders in the area, who wondered why such number of aides should be appointed when some of his members(IMC) were lamenting non-payment of salaries, and poor welfare packages under his leadership .
Meanwhile, the swearing-in event which was held at the council headquarters, Umuneke on Monday,22nd June, had in attendance only Dr Ethelbert Okere, DG, Imo Orientation Agency, as a government appointee. This is unusual ,considering the fact that the LGA has many appointees in the Shared Prosperity government of Sen. Hope Uzodimma.
However, many have interpreted their absent to mean not in support of the bizarre appointments done by IMC Chairman amidst fund scarcity.
It is vital to bring to bare that of the 27 IMC Chairmen appointed by Governor Uzodimma, only Ngor Okpala IMC Chairman made such prohibitive appointments , more sadly in an LGA that is grappling with numerous challenges that are calling for urgent attention. Stakeholders therefore call on Nweke to put on his thinking cap in order to come up with developmental ideas that could bring the LGA out of its developmental quagmire. They opined that he should work proactively with members of the IMC to deliver, rather than appoint numerous cum unnecessary aides in this critical period.
