OCDA consultants, developers fight over N200,000

  • Developers blame GM

There was a heavy fight between developers and revenue consultants of the Owerri Capital Development Authority OCDA, over the weekend.

Crisis broke up when OCDA consultants who went for an inspection on a particular building site in Nekede/ Ihiagwa were said to have demanded for a cash of #200,000 as a revalidation/ contravention fee from developers at the building site which the developers refused to pay, wondering why the GM could be making such an illegal demand of #200,000 cash from them.

The developers accused the OCDA GM Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie of using revenue consultants which government had disbanded to extort them excessively after paying the statutory approval fee which has already been acknowledged with receipts.

After an aggressive altercation and verbal explosion, there was a heavy exchange of blow which led to the beating up of OCDA consultant by developers.

According to one of the developers who spoke to Edge Express ” there is nothing like a revalidation/contravention fee, this is a means of extorting money from developers by the GM after we had paid the mandatory fee for building approval. If their demand is legal why are they making a cash demand from us instead of asking us to pay into the Government TSA”

Also speaking, one of the consultants said they acted under the instruction of the GM.

It can be recall that there have been series of accusations of extortion against the OCDA GM by developers which have been causing ripples in OCDA. Meanwhile all efforts made to get across to OCDA GM approved abortive as his telephone number was unreachable as at press time.
