- Lawmaker faults Arthur Egwim’s motion
- Calls for substantive projects across Imo
The member representing Ikeduru State Constituency and Majority Leader, Hon. Uche Ogbuagu has faulted the claim made by Hon. Arthur Egwim who represents Ideato North Local Government ,that Orlu zone is being marginalized ,wondering why someone from the zone that held sway in governance of the state for 16 years and still holding power presently, would claim marginalization.
Ogbuagu who was visibly unpleased at last Wednesday plenary when Hon. Egwim, who is the Majority Chief Whip, presented a motion to the house in which he claimed that “Orlu zone is grossly marginalized,” maintained that such claim shouldn’t have come from a principal officer who is conversant with the political history of Imo.
He argued that the claim is an indictment on past governors from the zone who governed the state for 16 years, calling on his colleagues to avoid motions that could bring division in the house, but rather see Imo as an indivisible entity.
The majority leader added that it is very unfair to compare Orlu zone with Owerri Metropolis, stating that roads and other developmental projects attributed to Owerri zone, were mainly located in Owerri Metropolis. He also noted that 90% of the roads in Owerri and Okigwe zones are in deplorable state , pointing out that the road that leads to his area as well as many other roads across Owerri ,Orlu, and Okigwe zones need attention, but assured that the present administration under the governance of Sen. Hope Uzodinma without sentiments would be fair to all zones like late Mbakwe, who developed the state without considering partisan affiliations.
Speaking further, he maintained that the reason why the state has witnessed so many deplorable roads was because they were given palliative repairs just as he stated that what the state needs presently are standard road projects that could stand the test of time. He pointed out that attention should be given to all deplorable roads across the three zones, not just in Orlu zone as requested by the majority.
