Imo State House of Assembly on Wednesday moved a motion to urge the Governor Senator Hope Uzodinma to set up a technical economic recovery committee to recommend the alternative ways and means to bolster the state economy through internally generated revenue for survival during and after the COVID-19 era.
The member representing the people of Ideato North State Constituency Hon Arthur Innocent Egwum Chief Whip of House moved the motion on the floor of the House. Hon. Uju Onwudiwe who supported the motion said that it is a welcome development for the state, in other not to be depending on federal allocation every time, other members who were present supported it.
In an interview with Egwim he said that his aim of moving this motion is, there is over dependence on oil, and if something is not done to increase revenue things might get worst considering the rate of oil due to this lockdown. He further said that the Governor should go out and look for technical economic committee, and the work of the committee is to look forward on how to generate internal revenue for the state. “Instead of waiting for the Federal Government, let there be an internally generated revenue in the state outside the crude oil.
