Micro and Mega investment promotion commission bill passes second reading

A bill for a law to establish the Imo State Micro and Mega Investment Promotion Commission Wednesday 20th May 2020 passed through second reading on the floor of Imo House of Assembly Owerri.

The bill tagged HAB No. 50 and sponsored by the member representing Obowo State Constituency, Hon. Kennedy Ibe among other things is for the promotion of investments in the state.

Hon. Ibe remarked at the presentation of the bill that it is a people-oriented bill for the facilitation of economic development in the state.

He stated that Imo has to stand up to reach industrial capacity so as to fend for any necessary demand.

Among other provisions of the law was for technicians to develop the state, make Imo State self-sustenance which would be able to provide for itself and reach out to other states.

Ibe further stated that the bill would encourage people to move to Imo State for development especially Imo citizens. It would also reduce excessive taxation, restiveness of the youths and crimes. 

Majority of the members present at the seating favoured the bill without any opposition. The bill was prepared in sections to carter for the roles each segment plays. Those who spoke in favour of the bill were Hon. Arthur Egwim, Hon. Ngozi Obiefule, Hon. Mike Njoku, Hon. Uche Ogbuagu, Hon. Johnson Duru, Hon. Nnodumele, Hon. Paul Emeziem and Hon. Nduka Emeka.
