Aboh/Okpala University a scam -Lawmakers

  • NUC approved Umuagwo
  • No room for multiple campus arrangement

The members representing Ikeduru and Aboh Mbaise local government areas, Hon. Uche Ogbuagu and Hon. Eddy Obinna ,have described the claims that University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences has an approved site at Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala, as a big scam  and one of the numerous lies of the administration of Governor Okorocha to deceive the people of the area  and gain cheap political praises, maintaining that the National Universities Commission(NUC) only approved the university to be situated at Umuagwo. Having no room for a multiple-campus arrangement .

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the bill to amend the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Law No.4 of 2019, was passed, the majority leader, Hon. Ogbuagu who moved the motion, disclosed that the bill only set the records straight by returning the institute to the original site where it was officially approved for, but frown that many have misinterpreted it to mean relocating an existing university from Aboh Mbaise/Ngor-Okpala constituency to Umuagwo.

He maintained that the people of Aboh Mbaise/Ngor-Okpala were kept in the dark about the true position of the university which only existed on pages of the newspapers, without the approval of NUC as well as existing structure befitting a university. He called on the people of the area to disregard the claim that such university existed in the area.

Similarly, Hon. Eddy Obioma, who is representing Aboh Mbaise LGA, affirmed that the university never existed in his federal constituency, describing it as a scam.

However, he appealed to his colleagues to allow the university  to be established at the site considering the fact that the people of Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala have donated lands and are eagerly longing for the full establishment of the university in their area. But his colleagues overwhelmingly rejected his appeal.

Meanwhile, a document presented to newsmen by Hon. Ogbuagu from NUC, confirmed that the approved location for the university is Umuagwo and not Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala.
